In our area, the main termite species is the subterranean termite. As their name would suggest, these termites start sub or below the terrain or ground and work their way up. They build shelter tubes that provide the right humidity level and protect the termite from predators including ants.

Termites are social creatures and live in colonies that can number into the millions. Due to this social behavior, we have developed treatments that take advantage of this behavior and can disrupt the colony without the termites even being aware of it!
